Boat Reading

Now that fall is here and we are more inclined to spend our evenings at home getting cozy by the fireside, we are reading about sailing. A big part of the preparation for cruising is learning about various tools, situations and solutions. This is just a small selection of the materials we are reading, we also read a lot of blogs, subscribe to various informative nautical sites, and have a bunch of books on the boat as well. Not pictured here but a big recommendation is the “Boatowner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual” by Nigel Calder – it’s on Lulu. We just spent the weekend with a lovely young sailing couple who we see as experts in all things sailing, and they reminded us that YouTube is entertainment – you really need to read sources with detailed information about a variety of solutions; both because every boat is different and because people who publish videos may be amateurs who aren’t always demonstrating the most correct or safest solution.
