We have really loved the marina in Dragsmark, and it was bittersweet to sail away toward our new winter harbor in Gothenburg. The owner of the marina (Bengt) has taken absolutely wonderful care of us and our boats, and he and his son Erik have worked diligently to update and improve the marina every year. It was a lovely place just to hang out on the boat, with peaceful moorings and beautiful views.
However, we have a lot of work to do on Lulu, and our new harbor is very close to our house and even closer to Magnus place of work. It will be very nice to be able to pop by Lulu during the week for an hour or two, or part of a weekend – all winter long. Our sail down to Gothenburg was excellent, we had good winds 10-15 m/s (20-30 knots) which Lulu handles brilliantly. Initially we thought to sail on the outside of the archipelago, but the water was pretty choppy (Jodi got seasick) so we stayed on the inside near land. With 3 reefs in our main and our staysail, we managed to keep between 4-7 knots most of the day. Toward the end of the day when the wind was steady below 10 m/s (20 knots), we switched to the reefed genua to get a bit more speed.
Now we have taken down Lulu’s sails and will send them to a sailmaker for a thorough review and repair if needed. We had a warm, windless and dry fall day today, perfect for us to work with the sails.
