In preparation for our big trip, we are working almost every weekend on the boat. But some of the time also has to go toward getting the house ready. We are planning on renting out our house while we are away, which means we need to clear out all our “stuff”. To keep storage to a minimum, we are cleaning out all our cupboards, shelves and storage areas of things that we have held on to because we might maybe one day perhaps be able to use them (or we just didn’t have the energy to clean them out and haul them to the dump).
Some choices are really hard, we have basically four options – do we want to store it, sell it, donate it, throw it away? I’ve been going through old photo albums and pulling out the pictures but throwing away the albums, to save on space. Even digital files are being cleared out, so that we prioritize storage digitally on what we need (sea charts) and not 50 versions of the same picture because we tried to get a really nice one. We are going to the dump to sort and recycle once a week right now.
