We had absolutely perfect weather for our sail from Lindholmen in Gothenburg, sunny and warm, a cooling breeze that was great for sailing. Lulu was dressed up in her party flags and looking lovely. Thank you to everyone who came to see us off, it was wonderful having a little crowd cheering as we left the harbor. We took it easy and set off for Kungsö in the southern archipelago of Gothenburg, a place we had tested our anchor skills only a couple of weeks previously. Since we hadn’t tested our dingy motor yet, it was a good chance to try it out.
Our dingy is called “Jakob”, because Lulu was built in Jakobstad, Finland. Magnus found an old Yamaha 2-stroke motor which is fully mechanical and which he feels comfortable working on, we bought it last year. The idea is that it could fall into the ocean and if we can bring it back up, we can clean it and re-use it. Sometimes simpler is better, plus we like the idea of keeping life in things and not just buying new. There are lots of new things on Lulu, but we have also scoured second hand boat markets and sailing forums for gear.
It has been a hectic and stressful last couple of weeks getting everything ready for our sail date, but also so nice to finally have started. This voyage has been a long time in the planning and it is so exciting to finally have set sail. Fair winds everyone!
Happy sailing and all luck!🍀✊
