Galicia, Spain

After leaving Luarca, we have been sailing west along the northern coast of Spain, landing in A Coruna on the 15th of August. The first night there we spent at anchor in front of a lovely beach, then the next morning we moved over to the harbor, ultimately spending four nights there. The harbor was one of the nicest we have stayed at, excellent service and centrally located in a picturesque town.

Another bonus with A Coruna was that we caught up to several other Swedish boats there, so we have been able to travel with other boats since leaving A Coruna. Most of the other boats there were on the same path as we are, they left Sweden in May / June and are on their way to the Canary Islands and / or the Caribbean.

The northwest corner of Spain is Galicia, and it is a beautiful rugged landscape. The coastline has dramatic cliffs and sandy beachfronts, and towns climb the hillsides. In terms of sailing, Spain has been fantastic because we are able to anchor in beautiful bays and don’t have to put into harbors every night like we did most of the way here. After leaving A Coruna, we have been in Muxia, Muros and Ribiera.

The only small spot on the horizon at the moment is the uncertainty of where the Orcas are, the family that has decided it’s a fun game to destroy sailboat rudders. We follow websites, Facebook groups and Telegram chats for daily updates of sightings and positions; and have prepared as best we can. It also means not sailing as much, because you have to keep close to shore, but we are taking short hops down the coast and enjoying the trip.

So beautiful, I love the way the harbor looks. I was glad to hear you encountered other Swedish boats enjoying their adventure. I just can’t imagine crossing the Atlantic though.

  2. En mycket intressant och trevlig berättelse .Tack.tack. Önskar er ljuvlig och härlig fortsatt segling.
    Hälsningar och Kramar fr Ingmar.
